Life of The Party
No, we're not going to analyze Frodo's dancing ability [later edit: the dancing's here]. But The Party gives us a few chances to observe pre-quest Frodo as someone who considers it his responsibility to look after people who are important to him. It's also obvious that he can act quickly and think on his feet. Maybe even with the loss of seventeen years he wasn't such a strange choice for Ring-bearer, after all.
This page has gotten kind of long, so besides the "Sam and Rosie" section just below, you can click on either The Dragon or The SB's to go to the discussion and pics for those events, rather than scrolling all the way down.
Sam and Rosie
Frodo's pushing Sam into a dance with Rosie looks so funny that it's not too obvious how serious he is about it. He seems to think at first that his suggestion will be enough to get Sam moving, but his expression changes when Sam decides to "just have another ale," and he gets pretty physical about making sure that's not what happens. Sam doesn't make it easy--he does a good job of playing immovable object to Frodo's irresistible force in pics #9-10. But Frodo's determined, takes advantage of the momentum given by the turn, and doesn't really have to shove Sam very far before Rosie (who's been keeping an eye on the whole thing--see #8) takes over in #15. I can imagine Frodo saying to her before The Party, "Don't worry, Rosie. I'll make sure he dances with you. You just be ready!"
[And I have to say that I think the expressions on both Frodo's and Sam's faces in #1-7 are priceless. Even though the frames aren't all needed to show what's happening, I couldn't bring myself to leave any of them out.]

The Dragon
The other instance we see in both versions of the movie is getting Bilbo--who's totally oblivious of the danger--out of the path of the dragon. Frodo's first thought when he realizes what's happening is "Bilbo" (he also realizes what's happening a lot sooner than the people around him). Is it a coincidence that Bilbo's just a step away, or has Frodo been purposely keeping an eye on him? Frodo gets as physical with Bilbo as he did with Sam, but Bilbo's a little easier to handle, even though he doesn't understand why he's being dragged away.

We've all seen the happy shot below--neither Baggins seems to have any worries. But watch Frodo's left arm in each successive frame; he's not taking any chances about letting go of Uncle Bilbo a moment too soon. (Don't you just love screencaps--and actors, directors, and cinematographers who make them worthwhile?)

The SB's
There's a somewhat similar example that comes up earlier in the extended version--when Bilbo wants to hide from the Sackville-Bagginses. A big difference from the "dragon rescue," though, is that in this case Bilbo knows he needs saving. Instead of just ducking into a tent himself, Bilbo gets flustered and depends on Frodo to get him out of sight. Makes me wonder if Bilbo (at least in his movie persona) has come to depend on his second cousin/first cousin/nephew/son more than he wants to admit, even to himself.
Frodo's again "coincidentally" right behind him (that's Frodo's hair off to the left side of the frame in #33). He has his hand on Bilbo's arm (36-37) even before Bilbo tells him what's wrong (which he's doing in 38). Frodo makes a check of the surroundings (39-41), then gets Bilbo moving and steers him through the crowd (42-43) while still keeping a lookout (44). Was this a pre-planned escape route? When Frodo gets Bilbo out of sight (45), he gets himself out of sight, too (46), which probably isn't a bad idea. Besides giving the two of them the chance to talk (with us listening in), this episode also gives us another opportunity to see Frodo think on his feet and watch out for someone else. Bilbo's evidently come to trust him for that.
