Deep Impact is one of Elijah's movies where it's a bit difficult to find scenes to look at in depth--unlike the LotR movies, or Huck Finn, or The Ice Storm, where the problem is narrowing down the choices. As I say in my general comments on the movie, I don't think the low-key acting is out-of-place; these are low-key people. But that doesn't mean there aren't profound things taking place inside them; they're just a bit harder to see. Perfectly suited to Elijah's subtle emotional acting.

And we join Leo and his family at a profound moment. Like any good, intelligent, suburban American teenager, Leo had come up with a way to solve his problem, planned it out carefully, and thought he had all his pieces in order. But somehow, despite his best efforts, he's ended up ready to go underground in Missouri while Sarah's still in the path of destruction back in Virginia. He has a very adult decision to make...
