Mikey's Delight from The Ice Storm
[Important Note: If you haven't yet seen The Ice Storm, and want to watch it without knowing the plot ahead of time, skip this page.]
Some shots of Mikey Carver's reveling in the ice storm were requested. It was more difficult than I expected, because a lot of his reaction is audio--we see him running and sliding mostly from a distance, and hear him shouting in delight. But here are some caps that, taken together, give something of an idea. We know that his joy comes not only from the fun of slipping and sliding but from the fact that, in Mikey's universe, all of the molecules have been frozen out of the air, making it cleaner and easier to breathe.

Sliding down the road--on a slick, dark, curving highway. Earlier he'd teetered on the end of an ice-coated diving board over an empty swimming pool. Something was bound to happen sooner or later...

Caps 11-15 are repeated at the bottom of the page, lightened to better show the expression on his face.

(I love these next few caps of his face, and I love that zipper dangling over his forehead--it's just so... Mikey.)
